Best Bakeries In Metro Detroit For Passover Desserts

While the Zingerman’s empire is well known in Ann Arbor – its deli, especially – some do not know that it also has a bakehouse, located on Plaza Dr. near the Briarwood Mall area. The chocolate orange torte, if it returns by March/April, would also be a good choice, as it’s made from matzo meal. Make sure to check out Zingerman’s other desserts (such as its rugelach or mandelbread) during the non-Passover parts of the year, as well.

Chef Cari Kosher Catering is operated and was founded by Chef Cari Herskovitz, who graduated from the Natural Gourmet Cookery Institute for Food and Healing (NYC) in 2000. Her catering company was founded in 2003, and is Glatt Kosher, under the supervision of the council of Orthodox Rabbis, Greater Detroit. She cooks for a minimum of 10 people, and her current menus are always posted on her site; make sure to check them out around Passover time for your dessert needs.

The Bake Station’s original location is in Southfield, and it also has two “Bake Station Too” locations, in Farmington Hills and (a cafe) in Oak Park. All of its desserts are Kosher, dairy-free and nut-free. The bakery was opened in April 1999 by Steve and Amy Katz, and their second location, Bake Station Too, opened in 2006 in West Bloomfield, later moving to Farmington Hills in 2011. Zeman’s is well known in the metro area for its baked goods; in fact, it’s the oldest Kosher bakery in the metro Detroit. It offers fresh bread – baked daily – rolls, brownies, pastries and more. It can be found on Greenfield near the corner of 10 Mile Rd. Most of its items are bread-related or are made with flour, but check back during March/April for its Passover offerings.

Epic Kosher Catering can be found inside Milk & Honey, at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield. During Passover, it offers a carry-out menu including desserts – for both your pre-Passover and post-Passover meals. Last year, a buffet menu was also offered. Pre-Passover desserts included a chef’s dessert table, and post-Passover desserts varied from a flourless chocolate cake, to chocolate truffles, to fresh fruit.
